JPMorgan brings JPM Coin deposit token to Ethereum

Institutional clients can now use JPMorgan’s dollar deposit token JPM Coin on Ethereum as well as Base, extending the networks available for onchain payments. That gives eligible firms another public blockchain route for moving bank deposits alongside tokenized assets. The expansion was announced Monday, Oct. 19, according to The Block’s report on JPM Coin’s Ethereum launch.

What can institutional clients do with JPM Coin on Ethereum?

JPM Coin, also called JPMD, represents U.S. dollar deposits held at JPMorgan and supports peer-to-peer transfers within the Ethereum Virtual Machine ecosystem, which includes Ethereum and Base. Bloomberg Law reported that clients can send and receive money in seconds, around the clock, rather than waiting several days for transfers limited to working hours. The token is designed for institutional clients, so the announcement does not open it to individual crypto users.

Kinexys by JPMorgan said Ethereum was a next step because of its onchain liquidity and tokenized assets, The Block reported. The bank first launched JPMD on Base in November 2025. Adding Ethereum gives institutional clients another network on which to make onchain native payments using a representation of their existing bank deposits.

What does a client need to use it?

A business must be a JPMorgan institutional client; the reports do not describe an application process, wallet setup or other onboarding steps. They also do not publish a fee schedule, minimum transfer amount or any transaction limits for Ethereum. Clients will need to confirm those operational details with the bank before planning payments around the service.

The available reports describe peer-to-peer transfers in the Ethereum Virtual Machine ecosystem, including Base and Ethereum, but do not specify how a client initiates a transfer between networks or whether any bridging is involved. That distinction matters for treasury teams choosing a settlement route: availability on both networks does not, by itself, confirm that tokens can move directly between them. The announcement also does not state which counterparties or tokenized assets clients can pay.

How does Ethereum fit into JPMorgan’s rollout?

The Ethereum launch builds on the Base rollout and JPMorgan’s broader use of the network for tokenized products. The Block reported that the bank launched its first tokenized money-market fund on Ethereum in December 2025 and a second in May 2026. The bank said Kinexys had processed more than $4 trillion in cumulative transactions, with average daily volume of $7 billion, as reported by The Block.

Those platform figures show the scale of Kinexys, but they are not JPM Coin transaction totals. For clients, the practical change is narrower: JPMD now supports transfers across Base and Ethereum, while access remains limited to JPMorgan institutional clients. Until the bank publishes fees and operating requirements, firms will need to check those terms directly before deciding whether the Ethereum option suits a particular settlement.
